If you want to create something useful in this world, then you must learn and work.

You cannot learn or work if you are constantly stimulated by cheap dopamine as it will get in the way. Creativity and boredom are interlinked.

You Should Dedicate Time to Being Bored

This is going to sound a bit dumb, but it’ll help in the long run.

You need to spend periods of time doing absolutely nothing. Literally. Just doing nothing. Your dopamine receptors will be refreshed and you’ll be better able to concentrate on the things that really matter.

I doubt you feel very good at scrolling and feeling like… you’re bloated mentally.

It’s kinda like every time you’re on your phone, you’re stuffing your brain with food. And you do this for a significant amount of time. The only way to feel better is to stop eating and let your metabolism do its job.

Food does not become more gratifying the more you eat it. It gets less and less appealing the more you eat until you eventually become sick.

The same thing goes for your brain.

So dedicate specific time for doing nothing or focusing on a task because then your mind will properly orient itself. Creativity and boredom cannot exist if you do not let it.

How to Be More Creative

Creativity is connecting dots from the things you already know.

Your mind… cannot create “new” things. It can only combine things it has seen in this world.

I cannot ask you to envision a new color because you’ve never seen it. If you want to be more creative, then you must learn more about the world. You learn so that you can have more to connect to each other.

Learning comes from focus and curiosity. You won’t develop any significant amount of learning if your attention is preoccupied with useless information on your phone.

So if you want to be more creative, learn more and become more curious about the world. Do that rather than spending your attention on useless things. Creativity and boredom go hand in hand.
